Shelburne Town Center

THE FUTURE LIBRARY AND TOWN CENTER PROJECT

The new library, renovations to the Town Hall, and municipal campus improvements will make Shelburne a better place for generations to come.  Much hard work still lays ahead and we look forward to the entire community's continued involvement.

Join us as we build for Shelburne’s future.

Built in 1982 as town offices and a police station, the old library was cramped, energy-inefficient, and relegated children to a basement space.  This space could not keep up with demand.

Over the last decade, the library has welcomed....

Project Goals

  • Build a 21st century library

  • Conserve and protect the historic Town Hall.

  • Strengthen the commercial, civic, and social center of Shelburne Village.

This multi-faceted project includes renovation of the historic Town Hall and Municipal Campus improvements.

The 1927 Town Hall, an architectural gem in the heart of Shelburne Village, needs rehabilitation to bring it back to its former glory for future generations to cherish.

Town Hall renovations include:

Perimeter waterproofing

New footings and piers for front columns

A new concrete stair base with brick overlay

Repairs to the roof, trim, eaves & rakes

New wiring

Interior finish repairs

Window updates

A new heating/cooling system

A catering kitchen for events

In consultation with the police, fire, and parks and recreation departments—and many residents—several upgrades to the town campus are planned as well.

Municipal Campus Improvements include:

A double exit lane for traffic onto Shelburne Road.

More green space and improved storm water management

Additional parking

Connected sidewalks and paths for pedestrian safety

Wayfaring signage

Project Budget and Fundraising

After years of planning and public outreach, the citizens of Shelburne approved a $6.5 million bond in November 2017.  A generous donor has pledged to match up to $500,000 of donations towards the project to reduce the total amount bonded.   The project budget breaks down as follows:

$5,100,000           construction of the new library

$710,000           renovations to the 1927 town hall

$680,000           improvements to the municipal campus
